maintenant ce qu'il faut pour passer d'un 4 a un 6 cylindres
PARTS REQUIRED TO CONVERT 4 TO 6 CYL.
Over the past several month, I have been asked several time by E-Mail and in person what it would take to swap either a 1.8 or 2.5 litre V-6 into a 4 cylinder MX-3. The answer is almost everything between the bumper and firewall. The RS and GS models may look alike on the outside but under the hood is another story. I have made a list of the major parts you will need in addition to an engine from a (V-6) GS model to swap a V-6 into a RS model or for that matter a (90 to 95') 323, Protégé and Escort GT.
Radiator
Fuel pump
upper radiator support downpipe
heater & radiator hoses Catalytic converter
multi-speed cooling fans and relays brake vacuum hose
wiring harness G25M-R manual transmission
ECU Flywheel & Clutch Assy.
all 4 engine mounts Clutch Release cylinder
alternator Starter motor
power steering pump, reservoir, oil cooler Shifter linkage
left and right driveshafts Front springs
fuel filter Transverse crossmember
This list only addresses the parts needed to swap the engine and does not address Braking and suspension differences. What is the next best option? I have seen other MX-3s that have swapped a 1.8litre DOHC from a Protégé GT and Escort GT and I know of a guy with a 1.6 litre 323GTX engine. I can't really say how much work would be involved to covert a B6ZE Miata 1.6 from rear to front wheel drive. Things such as the ignition system, the oil pick-up tube and oil pan will have to be changed and I believe the rear transmission mounting plate.
The 1.8litre would be a good choice from a performance standpoint. Mazda Competition Parts has a lot of high performance engine parts available. Rod Millen makes cams, headers, etc. Any of the Miata parts also become more readily usable with modifications to work on the 1.6 SOHC. Making a 200Hp+ 1.8DOHC without nitrous or forced induction is not out of the question. If you can find one a B6T from a 88-89' 323GT/GTX or from a Australian made Ford Capri complete with Turbo would be the ultimate engine swap but hard to find in general even harder to find in good condition. Crank angle sensor tend to go on this engine with age but are integrated into the crankshaft Cost to repair is $1200 or more for new crank.
