Hi all!

Does anybody have access to Nissan diagnostic software and hardware to test the RB26 engine in a Nissan Skyline R33 GTR? I suspect a fault with a vacum hose or dirty air-flow meters causing slight boost problems and high fuel usage. I am happy to come to you and pay for yor time + service.

Please call me on 0467 394248 or 0680 438977.

Thank you.

Kent.

ouch! this would be difficult in France to find a diagnostic tool for your car... Did you ask to a NISSAN garage? They may have the hardware if the plug is similar with other car, and may be able to get the software from NISSAN Uk.

(excuse my poor english level didn't pactise for a while.)

Hi.

Your English is just fine Smile

I went to Nissan in Beziers but they just said no and didn't even want to look at the car for 2 minutes!

When I spoke to Nissan UK, they said that all the Nissan software (even in France) is compatible with the Skyline and can diagnose the engine.

So, maybe if I can find somebody who works at Nissan near where I live, I can even perhaps just book it in and try.

Kent

PS... It is me who should be saying sorry about not writing in French. As much as I try, I cannot progress very fast!

Wow. That would be great! When is good for you? I have a friend who is very good in French and also my girlfriend is French, so language should not be a problem.

Do you have access to the diagnostics and could you check if it will be compatible with the RB26 Skyline engine? Then I will come to visit you when it is good for you.

Thanks for your help so far!

Ohhh. My French is very very bad, but I will ask my girlfriend to talk to you for me. I just need to know that your diagnostics will work with my Skyline. If it does, then I will come to visit you.

That's correct. I've been told the same from my local dealer here in Luxembourg. The CONSULT diag software is perfectly OK to see what's going on in an RB26 engine. Your local French dealer just has to act less as a fuckin' asshole and it should be fine. Wink

PS: sorry for the bad words but when I hear some like this it just makes me mad. Twisted

I'll be back... Twisted

Yep, makes me a little mad too. Escpecially when I spoke to the receptionist at Nissan and explained the story. She said that it would be fine to come and use the Consult! A waste of a trip and time!

Using a french Consult on your R33 is not a problem at all. The only problem is that the consult will not tell you about air leaks or vacuum hoses problem, etc.

It will only tell "this sensor is malfunctioning" etc. You'll still be able to use the consult to monitor various information, but if you don't know the values you are supposed to see when everything is running fine, then it's wasting time...

Could you tell more about what ur car does? Hunting when iddling? Misfire when it comes on boost? Overfuelling off and on boost?

Hi.

Thanks for the info and it was kind of how I suspected about the vacum leaks but wasn't sure.

Anyhow, the problem is like this. When iddling, it seems fine and sounds as it should. No racing and missfires etc, but the turbo prussure gauge is on almost 0.3 bar as opposed to 0.2 bar on tickover. Also, when applying throttle, the turbo gauge hits 0.4, then 0.5 but has very little power. Then suddenly it will boost how it should to 0.7 bar. This is more when it is cold. When warm it just seems to bost to 0.65 bar as it should but seems very powerless. It also backfires and splutteres a bit when applying throttle to cruise. In other words when the turbo gauge is on 0 bar and the throttle is allowing just enough pressure to keep a constant speed. It also consumes a lot of fuel. I have disconnected the LAMBDA sensours and this seemed to help a little but no where near enough. I have driven many Skylines as it is my job to import cars from Japan, so I know how it should go. It just seems that there is maybe a leak in one of the vacuum hoses.

Any help appreciated. Thanks again.

Kent

did you cleaned your MAf sensor??perhaps this???

i know that when the MAF is dirty, your symptom appears.

and what about your O2 sensors??you disconnected it???Why???this is why your consumption goes up??

these are just some hypothese that i suggest, not a resolution of your boost problems.

cheers Wink

I am guessing you mean the air-flow meters? I will try to clean them this aftenoon. also, I disconnected the O2 sensors as this was typical to another car I had with a similar problem. The fuel consumption was bad before this.

I'lllet you know how the cleaning of the meters go.

Thanks again.

it's typical that the o² sensors crapped with time, you can find it on ebay for a cheapper price.when it's not working well, your consumption goes definitly up.

try to clean the air-flow meters, and tell us what happened then.

cheers

ur car seems pretty much std. So I don't think it could be an cracked hose.

I put my money on the O2 sensor (but you shouldn't suffer from the lack of power you're talking about) or the knock sensor (which would have make the ECU switch to the fail safe mode by retarding the ignition).

Anyway, you could easily switch your ECU in diagnosis mode with a simple wire of metal and see if it throws a code or not (you should see code 55 which means everything is ok). Tell us the result of your diag.

Hi. Sorry about this, but I tool the car to a mechanic to check the vacuum hoses and air-flow meters. They will not have the car ready in time to come to you tomorow.

Can I contact you again when I have got the car back and found out if the hoses and meters are OK?

Thanks agian.
