apres de multiple recherche sur les forum et divers site, je trouvait pas de photo de catback monter sur civic se qui compliquait mon choix. apres pas mal de recherche j'ai enfin trouver un forum us qui proposait ça, je vous fait donc partager, et n'hésiter pas a completer en photo si vous avez des cat back ça facilitera le choix des autres personnes :

Aftermarket Exhaust Basics for Newbies

This thread contains a LOT of pics so be patient and let them load if you are 56k or slower. Until then, get reading!

First and foremost a Disclaimer:

What this guide will tell you:

This guide will go over the BASICS of how an exhaust system works and what they are composed of, while going into moderate detail about many of the popular aftermarket exhaust available to the import car enthusiast. Pipe construction, bend methods, finishes, and weld quality will also NOT be discussed. This is only the basics. I will be inserting URL's and images to make the learning process easier.



What this guide will NOT tell you: Advanced details about exhaust flow, such as exhaust pulses and backpressure theory. You'll have to search for that somewhere else - everybody has their different beliefs about the more scientific workings of an exhaust system, so it's up to you to research it on your own and draw your own conclusions. I recommend http://www.google.com

First and foremost you should know how 4 stroke combustion engine works. Head over to http://auto.howstuffworks.com/engine.htm and learn the basics. It's an easy 10 minute read and if you don't already know how an engine works, you'd be surprised how simple it really is. There are lost of pictures as well.

Exhaust Components and How they Work

Exhaust Manifold (or Header)

When exhaust gasses exit the engine they are routed through an exhaust manifold. Generally speaking, the exhaust manifolds duty is to collect all the exhaust gasses and combine them into place to be cleaned by the catalytic converter. The reason I say "combine them into one place" is because an exhaust manifold has one "runner" for each combustion chamber in the engine. If a car has 4 combustion chambers then the exhaust manifold will have four runners. So an exhaust manifold joins all the runners into one bigger one right before connecting to the catalytic converter. This guide is not about exhaust manifolds so we won't go into any more detail.

Catalytic Converter

Post exhaust manifold, the exhaust fumes are then travel through the catalytic converter (cat for short). The cat's job is to clean exhaust air. It is illegal to not have one, due to environmental concerns. Catalytic converters are, for the most part, restrictive. 'High Flow' components can replace OEM units but power gains will be very miniscule, depending on your engine configuration and how much horsepower your engine is making.

Exhaust pipe/B pipe

Basically just a length of exhaust pipe that the exhaust fumes go through as they make their way to the rear section/muffler. On OEM exhaust setups, the exhasut fumes also pass through a resonator which is only there to help deaden the sound of the engine. Like catalytic converters, resonators restrict exhast flow. OEM exhaust pipe diameter is usually too small for it's own good. Again, this is restrictive.

Resonators

As OEM exhaust systems are designed not for performance, but to quiet engine noises as much as possible, resonators are built into exhaust pipes.
They are slightly restrictive. Doing without a resonator will net you very miniscule power gains (again, depending on how much power your engine is producing) and will be loud and bothersome while drawing unwanted attention from cops and gun collecting neighbors. Most, if not all, aftermarket catback exhaust systems include the resonator anyways.

Rear Section/Muffler

Bolting up to the B Pipe is the rear section - a short length of exhaust piping with a muffler at the end. OEM mufflers are restrictive and ugly. The main job of an OEM muffler is to muffle the sound (duh). Inisde you will find a series of dead-end chambers that are designed to keep things as quiet as possible so you don't offend the nice old lady walking down the street on a sunday afternoon. Think of it like this: You are in a corridor that is perfectly straight. All you want to do is get from one end to the other as fast as possible. You start running - faster and faster - you are almost to the end of the hall. Out of nowhere, a bunch of obstacles appear. Now you have to climb over stuff, under stuff, you run into a few dead-ends even. Slowy but surely you make it to the end of the hall. That's what OEM mufflers do to exhaust flow. They restrict them, slowing down exhaust flow.

In summation, nearly every component of most OEM exhaust configurations are extremely restrictive to exhaust flow. That is why aftermarket exhaust systems are, more often than not, the first thing that car enthusiasts purchase for their car. Some are legal, some are not.


Aftermarket Exhausts

Before going any further I would like to address a common question heard at any automotive forum:

Q: How much of a horsepower increase will I see with ________ exhaust???

A: NONE! Engines make horsepower, not exhaust systems. Fresh from the factory, most OEM (that's Original Equipment Manufacturer, meaning the all the stuff that originally comes with your car) exhaust systems are designed not for performance, but to deaden the sound of the engine as much as possible. In other words, OEM exhaust systems are usually very restrictive - the exhaust flow from the engine is restricted, slightly hindering performance.

Aftermarket exhaust systems free up lost power, they do not make it!

Another thing to keep in mind is do not expect a huge change in your car's performance after bolting up an aftermarket exhaust system. It might free up a few horses - it's all going to depend on how much power your engine is making, and how it's making that power.

If you have nothing done to your engine, or you have an aftermarket header and/or air intake, expect your engine to rev a bit more freeley and a little extra pull at higher rpm ranges. Again - it's not going to be significant. Just because it's louder doesn't mean you are any faster. Don't let your ears decide how fast your car is. Oftentimes, aftermarket exhaust systems rob a little low end torque but the high rpm gains usually make up for it. Not all systems are like that however.

Sleeper Setups


If you are wanting a performance exhaust/muffler with a more subtle look to it (aka not a big ass tip jutting form your bumper) ES Tuning has a nice universal muffler in a mirror finish (for looks) or flat black finish (for stealth). 2.25" and 2.5" in/outlets are available. Thermal power :P on voit bien la sortie de près Le Stealth est ce qui se fait de mieux pour pas faire trop de bruit tout en libérant les gaz...

note pour l'apexi world sport il y a un espace dans les balises [img ] (espace avant le crochet fermant) c'est ça qui fout la zone

je viens de verifier pour les balises et tout est correct mais ça marche pas sur le post original elle ne marche pas non plus, le probleme viens surement de la

A savoir pour ceux qui rechercherai la Greddy EVO2 pour civic eg hatchback, après de nombreuses recherches, j'ai découvert qu'elle n'existait pas (uniquement présente sur les versions coupé US)
